Sindh police arrests Capt(retd) Safdar from private hotel
Police on Monday morning arrested senior PML-N leader Capt(retd) Safdar from a private hotel in Karachi. Safdar was in Karachi to attend Pakistan Democratic Movement's rally held on Sunday.
The news of his arrest was confirmed by PML-N's vice president Maryam Nawaz on Twitter.
"Police broke my room door at the hotel, I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar."
Maryam also shared a video of the broken door lock.
According to the details, a case was registered, on the complaints of PTI workers, against 200 people including Maryam Nazawz, Capt Safdar, and other PML-N leaders at the Brigade Police Station in Karachi for violating the sanctity of Mazar-e-Quaid and chanting slogans while he visited Quaid's mausoleum with Maryam Nawaz.
The case was registered under the Quaid-i-Azam’s Mazar (Protection and Maintenance) Ordinance of 1971, which explicitly forbids political activities within the premises of the mausoleum.
Safdar was severely criticized over the desecration of Mizar by the federal government as well as the public.
Minister for planning and development Asad Umar took to Twitter and said that PML-N leaders owe an apology to the nation for disrespecting Quaid's resting place.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi also condemned Safadr's action and called political sloganeering at Mizar unacceptable.
"This is just not acceptable. The sanctity of Quaid’s Mazar disrespected by these criminals masquerading as politicians."
Safdar is currently in the custody of police station Aziz Bhatti from where he will be taken to the court today. His lawyers are also present with him.
