KARACHI: Five dacoits were killed in a gunbattle with police in an empty bungalow in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase IV of Karachi on Friday.

According to police, the dacoits entered a house to commit dacoity but when the police arrived there they fled and took cover in an empty bungalow where the shootout took place and all of the dacoits were killed.

Personnel of the police intelligence wing also took part in the action. Police said the dacoits came there in a double cabin vehicle with number-plate KP-9756, which was owned by a lawyer. The dead bodies of dacoits have been moved to Jinnah Hospital.

As per the police, the slain dacoits belonged to the Saraiki gang. Three of them were identified as Ghulam Mustafa, Riaz and Abid. Weapons were also recovered from them.

Police found criminal records of Abid and Ghulam Mustafa as they were wanted in multiple cases, they were reportedly belonging to Bahawalpur, while, Riaz was from Multan, police informed.

Earlier on Thursday, a gang of burglars had allegedly broken into a Nazimabad house for dacoity that was intercepted by house residents who raised a cry for help. After the arrival of police, the locals retreated and allowed the personnel to take lead and detain the suspects and whatever was in the latter’s possession.
