The Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has imposed a complete ban on Basant festival across the province.

According to details, Usman Bazdar held a meeting with Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat in Lahore to discuss suggestions related to granting conditional permission to celebrate Basant.

Following the conclusion of meeting, Punjab CM said that government could not permit a throat-cutting kite flying festival.

“No one will be allowed to fly kites in Punjab putting people’s lives at risk,” he added.

Buzdar also ordered stern action against kite makers, string makers, sellers and kite flyers.

The decision has come amid reports from Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Sahiwal of preparations for Basant in the second week of February. However, Punjab Chief Minister rejected all suggestions and recommendations.

It is pertinent to mention here that Basant was banned in Punjab in 2007 owing to deaths caused by sharply polished threads used to fly kites.
