ISLAMABAD: Islamabad chief commissioner has on Monday formed a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the Islamabad High Court (IHC) attack case, and a notification has also been issued in this regard.

According to the notification, the JIT comprises representatives of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), police and intelligence agencies, SSP (investigation), SSP (CTD), Sadar SP, SDPO and Margalla police station SHO. Furthermore, the investigation team will also seek help from the IHC Bar and the Islamabad District Bar. The JIT will probe the matter at Margalla and Ramna police stations.

Earlier, five benches were formed to hear cases against 32 lawyers who attacked the IHC and vandalized its building in name of protest over demolition of illegal chambers. As per the cause list of the IHC registrar office, five different benches are to hear contempt cases against the counsels. It is pertinent here to mention that the accused lawyers had held IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah hostage and forcefully stopped all courts from hearing cases. NNI
