PDM to take key decisions regarding resignations, long march in a meeting today

Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an 11-party opposition alliance against the ruling Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is meeting today (Tuesday) in Islamabad to finalize their future strategy to oust the current government.

During the meeting, the alliance will discuss submitting resignations from the assemblies – an option strongly opposed by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), while Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) and Jammat-e-UIema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) believe en masse resignations is the way to dislodge the PTI government.

The agenda of today's meeting will be to review the current political situation of the country after Senate polls upset and controversies. The opposition parties will also discuss submitting resignations from assemblies, and finalize preparations for the long march towards the capital on March 26.

Long march not effective without en-mass resignations:

JUI-F and PDM Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman on Monday said that to make the long march effective, it is necessary that PDM submits resignations from the National and Provincial assemblies.

While speaking to media in Peshawar, Fazal said there is no rift in the opposition parties, and acts of betrayal by individual members do not reflect party policies.

He was referring to recent polls for the election of Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman, where despite having the majority, PDM's joint candidates lost both top slots.

PML-N's vice president Maryam Nawaz on Monday said that Tuesday's meeting would make it clear where the Opposition parties stand on the resignations. "We will try to persuade those who do not agree to resign," she added.
