Polling has started for the NA-75 Daska by-election on Saturday as per the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) directives. A major contest is expected between the PTI's Ali Asjad Malhi and PML-N's Nosheen Iftikhar.

According to the details, ECP Chief Sikaner Sulta Raja is personally supervising the re-polling process from the provincial office in Lahore. Out of a total of 360 polling stations, 47 have been declared highly sensitive and close-circuit TV cameras have been installed to monitor any suspicious activity.

Moreover, in order to ensure transparent re-election in NA-75, the provincial election commission has assigned Pakistan Rangers the task of safe transportation of presiding officers and the polling material to and back from the polling stations to the office of the returning officer.

The bye-poll in Daska initially took place on 19 February, however, the result was declared void by the ECP on 25 February amid reports of violent clashes and alleged rigging that took place on different polling stations. 20 presiding officers had also disappeared from their respective polling stations and could not be contacted for several hours.

PPP assures PML-N of its support:

Despite the rifts emerging in Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), PPP has assured its support to PML-N candidate.

“The PPP will live up to its promise of supporting the candidate in the by-polls, just as it backed them in February. Despite differences in the PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement], we will stand by our promise,” PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said in a statement.
