COVID-19: Pakistan reports 135 deaths, 4,681 new cases in 24 hours

Pakistan on Wednesday has reported 4,681 new cases and 135 COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.

According to statistics shared by National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the country's nerve center for unified efforts against coronavirus, 48,092 coronavirus tests were taken, 4,681 came out positive, and 135 deaths were reported countrywide in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 4,216 critical patients of COVID-19 admitted at different hospitals in the country.

With these latest statistics, the country's total number of confirmed cases stands at 734,423. Pakistan has so far recorded 15,754 coronavirus-related deaths, and a total of 641,912 patients have recovered from the novel disease.

The positivity ratio reported in the last 24 hours is 9.73%.

NCOC issues NPIs for Ramazan:

The national coordination center has also issued non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for Ramzan. According to the details, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar chaired a meeting of NCOC on Tuesday and issued a list of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be strictly followed.

As per these new SOPs:

  • The market timing will be from Sehr till 6:00 pm apart from essential services
  • Indoor dining will be banned, however, outdoor dining will be allowed from iftar till midnight
  • Complete closure of cinemas and shrines will continue to be enforced
  • 50% work from the home policy will continue
  • Taraweeh prayer to be organized in open spaces
  • There will be a complete ban on contact sports, festivals, cultural gatherings, and other events
