COVID-19: Pakistan reports 146 deaths, 4,696 new cases in last 24 hours

Pakistan on Saturday has reported 4,696 new cases and 146 COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours as the country struggles with the third wave of coronavirus.

According to statistics shared by National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the country's nerve center for unified efforts against coronavirus, 48,740 coronavirus tests were taken countrywide, of which 4,696 came out positive.

There are currently 5,490 critical patients of COVID-19 admitted at different hospitals in the country. And the reported positivity rate is 9.63%.

With these latest statistics, the country's total number of confirmed active cases stands at 90,553. Pakistan has so far recorded 825,519 confirmed cases, 17,957 deaths, and a total of 717,009 recoveries from the novel disease.

Most active cases are reported in Punjab (47,632) followed by Sindh (12,501), and Islamabad (12,495). There are currently 12,165, 2,239, 1,404, and 117 active cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan respectively

Vaccination centres to remain open on Labour Day:

The government has decided to keep the vaccination centres across the country open on May 1st, Labour Day. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Faisal Sultan took to Twitter to announce the decision:

"In view of the need to continue our vaccine drive, Covid vaccine centers will be open on May 1."

According to Faisal Sultan, Pakistan has so far administrated approximately two million doses of COVID-19 vaccination.
