• The recovery rate amongst COVID positive patients has jumped to 87.8% as compared to 86.9% last month
• NCOC has announced a complete lockdown from 8 to 16 May
• In the last 24 hours, more than 200,000 people got vaccinated against the deadly novel coronavirus infection

Pakistan on Wednesday has reported 4,113 new cases and 119 COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours as the country struggles with the third wave of coronavirus.

According to statistics shared by National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the country's nerve center for unified efforts against coronavirus, 44,838 coronavirus tests were taken countrywide, of which 4,113 came out positive.

There are currently 5,211 critical patients of COVID-19 admitted at different hospitals in the country. And the reported positivity rate is 9.17%.

With these latest statistics, the country's total number of confirmed active cases stands at 84,480. Pakistan has so far recorded 841,636 confirmed cases, 18,429 deaths, and a total of 738,727 recoveries from the novel disease.

Most active cases are reported in Punjab (41,634) followed by Sindh (16,568), and Islamabad (11,577). There are currently 11,076, 2,118, 1,387, and 120 active cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan respectively.

NCOC announces a complete lockdown from 8 to 16 May:

NCOC has announced a complete lockdown will be in place from 8 to 16 May to stop the spread of coronavirus during the Eid holidays. The only exemptions from the lockdown will be:

1. Groceries shops, Bakeries and Sweet shops will be allowed to remain open on daily basis till 06:00 pm
2. Tandoors and Milk/Dahi shops will remain open 24 /7
3. Takeaways will be allowed 24/7
4. E-Commerce (Home Delivery), Utility Services (Electricity, Natural Gas, Internet, Cellular Network, Telecom), and Media will be allowed 24/7 operation

Pakistan vaccinates more than 200,000 people in one day:

Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiative Asad Umar on Wednesday shared that Pakistan has vaccinated more than 200,000 people against COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

In a tweet, the NCOC chief said more than 5 million people have so far registered for the vaccination. He urged masses to register themselves if they are above the age of 40 and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for protection from the novel disease meanwhile.
