KARACHI: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday has demanded holding of local body elections in Sindh and said that there is a need of strong local bodies governments in the province.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Fawad Chaudhry termed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah as a puppet chief minister and said that Sindh Chief Minister is pursuing nationalist politics and is distancing himself from the politics of Zulfiqar Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

Fawad Chaudhary accused Asif Ali Zardari of limiting chief minister and provincial assembly's role.

Sindh police not capable of maintaining law and order

The Information Minister said that Sindh police is not capable enough to maintain law and order situation in the province. Street crimes have become common in Sindh and citizens are being left at the mercy of the criminals, he added.

“Is it not the police that is responsible to tackle such criminal activity,” he asked and said that a city as big as Karachi is unable to develop a police force owing to the incompetency of the provincial authorities.

He expressed displeasure of the dismal law and order situation of Sindh, adding that the Karachi police was not even aware of the city's problems.

Referring to NAB's operations, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that NAB has made a historic recovery of embezzled money from Sindh.

Regarding the budget, the Information Minister said that the policy of PML-N is to reject everything without looking at it. It seems that they will do the same for the next seven years.

He said the government's budget 2021-22 was a people-friendly budget, adding that this year Pakistan will grow its economy.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that PML-N opposed giving the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis. Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistanis abroad are not aware of the problems.

The minister lashed out at the PML-N and said that the PML-N rejected the electronic voting machine adding that the PML-N "does not have a future" in next general election. PTI govt want to make the election process transparent in Pakistan.
