Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday said he was being discriminated because he was from Sindh unlike PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif who was from Punjab.

He said this in reply to questions from journalists who asked why he felt Sharif could travel abroad for medical treatment but he could not.

Zardari was speaking after getting pre-arrest interim bail in a case investigating his alleged ownership of an apartment in New York.

He was accompanied by his lawyers Farooq H. Naek, Latif Khan Khosa and former Senate chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, Farhatullah Babar, Sherry Rehman, Rehman Malik and other party leaders.

Zardari is suffering from ailments and arrived at the Islamabad High Court in an ambulance and walked with support to the courtroom.

He was accompanied by his lawyers Farooq H. Naek, Latif Khan Khosa and former Senate chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, Farhatullah Babar, Sherry Rehman, Rehman Malik and other party leaders.

When asked whether he wanted to relay any message to ‘selectors’ the former president replied: “Why should I convey a message through you.” He added that he did not think the PTI was not running the government.

He also spoke about the upcoming elections in AJK saying he was confident his party would perform well .

The case against him

The IHC division bench granted pre-arrest interim bail to Mr Zardari till July 28 against Rs0.5 million surety bonds.

A day earlier, however, the IHC bench declined to grant him even interim bail because he was not present in court. They said they did not want to set a precedent of granting bail without the person's presence in case it set a precedent for others to ask for the same relief.

The National Accountability Bureau asked Zardari to appear on June 24 in connection to the New York apartment ownership.

Zardari says the notice is baseless and an attempt to harass him.
