New figures released by NCOC on Friday show how fast Covid is spreading in Pakistan with the positivity rate rising to 6.17% from the 5% a day before.

The last time Pakistan was at 6% was May 22 when the rate was 6.43%.

Friday's figures show that 31 people died of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This brings the death toll to 22,720 across the country, while the number of affected people has reached 983,719.

NCOC's tweet on Friday also stated that 37,690 tests were conducted of which 2,327 people tested positive.

A day earlier, SAPM on health Dr Faisal Sultan also tweeted concerns about the rise in cases, urging people to get vaccinated.

Delta variants

Karachi University's International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences said on Thursday that they had found 65 cases of Delta variants.

According to their breakdown, of the 2,062 samples tested at their lab, 163 turned out to be positive, out of which 65 carried the Delta variant.

Earlier in the week, Federal Parliamentary Health Secretary Dr Nausheen Hamid told Geo that the Delta variant of the coronavirus was counting for 50% of the total infections in Pakistan.
