Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday night told Geo's Naya Pakistan that he believed the Afghan envoy's daughter was not kidnapped and that it was part of a grand Indian plan to discredit Pakistan.

He said the government is doing everything to assist her in finding the culprits and have lodged the FIR for her.

He said they have spoken to the taxi drivers she used and have CCTV footage of her whereabouts and once they recover the remaining footage, they will be able to reveal all details.

According to him, Silsila Alikhil left her home on foot and traveled by taxi to Rawalpindi from Islamabad’s Khadda Market.

He also said the Afghan envoy's daughter was inconsistent in her statements.

“She first said they had taken away her phone," he told Shahzad Iqbal. "Later, when she gave investigators her phone, her Whatapps and cloud data had been deleted.”

Alikhil was kidnapped and assaulted on Friday in Islamabad during a taxi ride when an unidentified man entered her cab and beat her. She was left on the road unconscious and taken to PIMS for a medical examination where the torture was confirmed.

The Prime Minister ordered an inquiry into the incident and arrest of the culprits in 48 hours.

The Afghan government called the event a heinous act. However, on Sunday it recalled its diplomatic staff due to security threats. Pakistan's Foreign Office regreted their decision saying they had upped security for all their staff following Friday's incidence.

It's not yet clear what impact Sheikh Rasheed's interview had on bilateral relations.

Following Rasheed's claims that the incident was part of “RAW’s agenda to defame Pakistan in the world", social media users took to Twitter to slam Silsila Alikhil, the Afghan government and Afghans in general.

Much of the language used in the tweets about her are too racist and derogatory for Aaj Digital to republish. Below, however, is a sample of sentiments tweeted on this issue.
