Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf seems set to form the government in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly according to preliminary results.

At the time of writing results were awaited from three polling stations but PTI was in a comfortable lead with 25 seats, PPP with 9 seats and PML-N with 6.

All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party have secured one seat each.

These elections were marred in controversy with opposition claims yesterday of rigging.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz led the charge and tweeted on Sunday that she did not accept the results.

Her tweet was met with a sharp reply from SAPM Dr Shahbaz Gill who tweeted early Monday morning that her acceptance of the result did not matter, reminding her that she also did not accept owning a property and then was forced to.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted his complaints about rigging on Monday morning but also expressed his gratitude at having emerged as the largest opposition. He thanked his workers and supporters.

Winners, losers

According to Monday's report in Dawn about the winners, it listed PTI regional chief Sultan Mahmood as securing his seventh electoral victory out of nine elections he's participated in from the LA-3 Mirpur-III seat.

PPP’s regional president Chaudhry Latif Akbar won from LA-30 (Muzaffarabad-IV) constituency making this his sixth electoral victory, writes Dawn.

When news emerged of PTI’s central joint secretary Khawaja Farooq Ahmed's victory, his supporters lit firecrackers to celebrate, reports Dawn.

Raja Farooq Haider lost from one constituency but won in another.

From Kotli, Javed Iqbal Bhudanvi of PPP secured victory as did Ansar Abdali and Chaudhry Akhlaque from the PTI.

In Poonch, PPP’s Sardar Yaqoob Khan won from his constituency as did PTI's Shahida Saghir and Abdul Qayyum Niazi reports Dawn.
