The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, in another major reshuffle, on Tuesday removed the fifth chairman of the Federal Bureau of Revenue in three years of its tenure.

Dr Mohammad Ashfaq Ahmed was appointed as the new FBR chairman. He was serving as a BS-21 officer of Inland Revenue Service (IRS) for two years as a member (operations) of the department.

According to a report in Dawn, the new FBR chairman also held the position of director general international taxes and he didn’t resign from the DG post.

The report added former FBR chairman Asim Ahmad was removed from the position after a major cyberattack on tax payer’s data.

Quoting Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, the report said Ahmad served as a member of information technology for two years, but hadn't install sufficient security to protect tax payers’ data.

In other news, the prime minister’s aide on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood also resigned from his post according to The News. The report quoted sources saying Dr Masood had differences with Tarin over the handling of the IMF program.

Masood wanted the government to implement the IMF conditions while the finance minister did not think Pakistan was able to at this point.
