Acting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Friday met with Justice Qazi Faez Isa as well as with Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan against a backdrop of a case which has caught the nation's attention as it concerns allegations of journalists' harassment.

On Thursday, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court recalled the Aug 20 order by a two-member bench, written by Justice Isa, in which government officials were summoned to respond to allegations made by journalists about being harassed.

Justice Bandial took oath as acting chief justice on Aug 20 until Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad returns from his leave abroad.

He met with Justice Isa before he left for the US on a personal visit and the meeting is said to have lasted two hours but no media outlet reported on what transpired other than Bandial offered prayers for Justice Isa's wife quick recovery.

During Justice Bandial's meeting with AGP Khan, however, Dawn reported the two discussed improving the image of the judiciary and the citizens’ trust in the judiciary.

Bandial has ordered the journalist harassment case be heard on Monday.

Journalists Imran Shafqat and Aamir Mir filed a suo motu notice alleging harassment against them. The journalists filed their request under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, requesting the court to ensure their fundamental rights and hold the violators accountable.

The Supreme Court bench hearing this on Thursday said only the Chief Justice could hear suo motu notices.

The five-judge bench wrote a unanimous order in which they also directed redirecting the journalist harassment case to Chief Justice's office for further orders.
