A court in Sindh has sent Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Jam Owais on a three-day remand in the case involving the murder of Nazimuudin Sajawal Jokhio, who was allegedly tortured to death for making a video of Arab tourists hunting the endangered houbara bustard in Thatta.

MPA Jam Owais, who surrendered to the police following protests, was presented in court earlier today. He was also nominated in the first information report (FIR) registered at the Memon Goth Police Station in Karachi's Malir district.

According to the FIR, the MPA along with his associates Niaz Salar, Ahmed Shoroo, Haider Ali and Meher Ali were responsible for Jokhio's death. His torured body was found at a farmhouse owned by the PPP lawmaker -- a day after he uploaded a Facebook live in which he had filmed a vehicle with a Dubai number plate who were apparently on an illegal hunting expedition.

In the video uploaded earlier this week, which has since gone viral on social media, a man filmed the vehicle parked in the middle of an unpaved road, blocking the route. The person shooting the video, believed to be Nazim Jokhio, then points out that despite the fact that the visitors were 'in his hometown', the people manning the vehicle were threatening him for asking questions. The driver of the four-wheel drive can then be seen stepping out of the vehicle who then grabbed the cell phone which was being used to make the video.

Later, Jokhio uploaded another video, in which he said he was getting death threats warning him of dire consequences unless the video of Arab hunters was deleted. In this Facebook post, he also sought police protection.

Afzal, the victim's brother and a former councillor of Karachi's Ghaghar Phatak area, accused PPP MPA Jam Awais and MNA Jam Abdul Karim of being involved in his brother's alleged murder.

It also resulted in a protest where Nazim's relatives and other members of the Jokhio community from Malir and adjoining areas staged a protest and blocked the National Highway near Gulshan-i-Hadeed on Wednesday.

Social media has also taken up the issue after several leading journalists shared the clip of Jokhio's inconsolable mother as she cries for justice for his slain son, a father of four, with #JusticeForNazimJokhio one of the top trends on Pakistani social media.
