Defense lawyers completed cross-examiniation of Islamabad Assistant Commissioner Dr Sania Hameed during a hearing of the Usman Mirza sexual assault case at an Islamabad sessions court.
Usman Mirza and his accomplices were indicted for sexual harrassment, torture and blackmail after a viral video that showed the accused and his accomplices threatening the victims at an apartment in Sector E-11 of the federal capital.
Mirza, the prime accused, was indicted in September along with six others, namely Hafiz Attaur Rehman, Idras Qayyum Butt, Rehan, Umar Bilal Marwar, Muhib Bangash and Farhan Shaheen, who were involved in filming the objectionable video of the young couple.
On Thursday's hearing, Mirza and five other accused were presented in the court of Judge Atta Rabbani. The defendant's lawyers completed the cross-examination of Dr Hameed, who recorded the statement of the victim. The other two lawyers will continue the cross-examination in the next hearing.
During the hearing, defendant Shaheen's lawyer Malik Ikhlaq Awan asked Hameed whether the victim in her statement mentioned the name of his client. "She has mentioned names of all people she could recall. Being a majistrate of Golra police station, I am satisfied with the procedure while recording her statement," said the assistant commissioner.
Awan was then involved in a verbal spat with the plaintiff's lawyer, Hassan Javed, over the name of Shaheen in the statement of the victim. Hameed then told the court that the victim hadn't named Shaheen in her statement.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing till November 18 and ordered Dr Hameed to present in the court on next hearing.
