The Shalimar police arrested four people on Saturday, including a son of a leading journalist, for breaking into Islamabad Model college and harassing students and teachers.

The incident occurred on Friday and social media has been ablaze with news that one of the men is the son of an influential TV journalist.

According to Dr Asad Faiz, the principal of the college, one of the accused, who appeared to be drunk, got off their pickup truck and started beating the security guard.

After hurling profanities at the guard and assaulting him, the group moved into the building and attacked the students. They harassed and threatened the female students and staff at the college.

The Shalimar police has registered the case under section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person otherwise than on grave provocation), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 542 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) after receiving a complaint from the Dr Faiz.

The police produced the four suspects in court from where they were sent on judicial remand.

Speaking to a media outlet, SP Saddar Zone Nosherwan Ali said that they had received a call from a citizen in the morning that riders of a grey pickup truck were harassing a girl at F-11 Markaz.

Details of this incident are also circulating on social media.

Instagram user Anfas Malik claims he was the one who reported it to the police when his friend, a mother of two, called him to say some men were following her.

“She was in the middle of a petrol pump in f11 markaz in her car. She told me on call to come inside the car as she pointed towards the car of the men which was a grey Vigo,” he said.

Malik said there was no response from the police on his complaint, and when they did eventually arrive no one was arrested.

SP Ali said that soon after the first call, the police received another call reporting the incident at the college. He said the police rushed to the location and arrested the men and shifted them to the Shalimar police station along with their grey pickup truck.

According to Malik, the four arrested are the same men who harassed his friend at F-11 Markaz.
