Pakistan-born professor appointed UK govt’s chief economist

Pakistan-born economist Dr Adnan Qadir Khan has been appointed as chief economist for the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in the UK government.

A statement issued by the London School of Economics (LSE) School of Public Policy congratulated Dr Khan and said that their Academic Director and Professor Adnan Khan will assume his new position from January 2022.

Originally from Dera Ghazi Khan, Dr Khan has served at LSE for several years.

He studied engineering, philosophy and international affairs at the University of Engineering and Technology and Punjab University.

Dr Khan has worked in several different positions in Pakistan including the Pakistan Administrative Service after securing the first position in the Civil Service Examination in 1995.

Dr Khan is a member of the founding board of the Center of Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP).
