FIR lodged against officials involved in approving Nasla Tower

Police on Tuesday registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) against the officials involved in the approval of Karachi’s 15-storey Nasla Tower building on the charges of forgery and breach of responsibilities following the directives of the Supreme Court (SC), Aaj News reported.

The apex court on Monday, while hearing the case pertaining to the demolition of the illegally constructed Nasla Tower building, called for a criminal and institutional investigation against the officials involved in the approval of the 15-storey building located on Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The SC had also ordered that the 780 square yards of land that the building is constructed on be seized while directing the Sindh High Court’s official assignee to stop its sale. It also ordered DIG East to submit an investigation report to the court.

According to the police, the FIR has been sealed as it has to be submitted to the top court. The FIR has been registered at District East’s Ferozabad Police Station.

As per the copy of the FIR available with Aaj News, many departmental officials have been booked under sections 161 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect to an official act) and 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury); section 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture); 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent); 420 (cheating and dishonestly Inducing delivery of property); 447 (punishment for criminal trespass); and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
