Punjab Police have detained 14-year-old Zain Ali in connection with the murder of his mother, a lady health worker (LHW), and three siblings in Kahna a week ago and are claiming they have solved the murder case, Dawn reported.

Ali’s mother, LHW Naheed Mubarak, 45; his brother, Taimur Sultan, 20; sisters Mahnoor Fatima,15, and Jannat, 10, were all found dead in their house at LDA Chowk area on January 19th.

Authorities maintained that Ali used to play the popular online game PUBG, which influenced him to kill his mother and three siblings. They said that he would spend all his time in his room, playing the game.

A senior police official has also said that Ali has confessed to the crime. The officer said that the boy flew into a rage after he could not achieve a target in the game despite trying repeatedly, which made him go seek out his mother’s gun. He first shot his sleeping mother and then his sisters. When his brother entered the room after hearing the gunshots, Ali shot him too. He then went to his room and rested, before leaving the house to throw the gun away in a nearby drain.

He returned to his room after to pretend that he was sleeping through the incident. The police was suspicious about the teen since the start as his body language was confusing but they decided to investigate the matter further before making any arrests. They only detained Ali for the murders on Thursday after they explored all options.

The senior official also said that during the investigation, a trail of blood was found leading from the crime scene to Ali’s room and bloodstains were also found on his clothes.

This is the fourth PubG related crime incident and has prompted the police to approach the federal government asking to ban the game.

At least three young players have also committed suicide, where police say PubG related incidents were the cause. Police had also suggested a ban on PubG in 2020 when criminal incidents influenced by the game first surfaced.
