Rashid alarmed over Karachi street crime; offers additional Rangers deployment

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, while expressing alarm over the spiralling cases of street crime in Karachi, has said that the federal government was ready to provide more personnel of the Rangers paramilitary force to the Sindh government if needed.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Rashid said that the interior ministry would deploy Rangers even at police stations. "If [Sindh] Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ask us for any assistance, we are willing to provide it," he told reporters.

Talking about the upcoming visit of the Australian cricket team, he said excellent arrangements had been made for their security.

He added that Australian cricket team was visiting Pakistan on February 27 after a long time and special arrangements had been put in place to ensure their stay was safe and comfortable.

The interior minister reaffirmed the commitment to crush the foreign funded terrorists. He said Radd-ul-Fasaad operation secured the country and we pay tributes to the sacrifices of security personnel.

He further said that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been directed to auction three plots for construction of three modern hospitals in the capital city.

The minister said that after the provision of health card by the government, the people were now getting free treatment from private hospitals resulting in ease of pressure on public sector hospitals in the federal capital.

A Khidmat center will be established in F-6 sector in order to provide twenty eight services to the people under one roof, the minister announced adding that a modern ladies shopping center will also be established in Islamabad.

Thirteen new passport offices will be established in Sindh whilst twenty eight Identity Card Stations of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) are also being established in the four provinces, he added.

Speaking regarding the Opposition's no-trust motion, Rashid said that the opposition would not get anything from their protest campaigns, adding that the no-confidence motion will also face defeat.

Speaking about the Opposition's contacts with PTI allies, he said politicians never closed their doors for talks with others.
