Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday urged the masses to turn up in big numbers on the party’s protest, which is scheduled for March 27, to “fight for the soul” of Pakistan, as he faces the no-confidence motion in the lower house of parliament.

The government earlier this week had announced their decision to hold a public gathering, which is expected to gather “one million” people, in response to the opposition’s no-confidence motion against PM Imran in the National Assembly. The federal ministers have said the protest would be held at the D-Chowk in Islamabad which comes en route to parliament.

“Want all records to be broken of public attendance to fight for the soul of Pakistan,” PM Imran said in a tweet. “We stand with what is right and condemn such shameless buying of politicians' souls by political mafias to protect their looted wealth.”

In reaction to such a call, the opposition has also announced a protest on March 25 and urged the united opposition parties workers to attend it in large numbers as part of their attempts to send the government packing.

However, the coalition partners and the legal fraternity have warned both sides of the aisle to refrain from holding such rallies. They expressed concern that such gatherings and hostilities could cause “anarchy” in the country. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has also expressed his fears that the country was heading towards anarchy. Moreover, Rashid has also called in 2,000 Rangers and Frontier Corps personnel on the day of the no-trust vote, which is expected to be held on March 28, in order to ensure law and order in parliament.

The federal ministers have claimed that the public gathering would give a second thought to the "dissidents" on their apparent decision to support the opposition's no-trust move. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Energy Minister Hammad Azhar on Saturday said the party has given a chance to such lawmakers to come back to the party. But, the PTI has also sent a notice to 13 of its MNAs and sought an explanation over their decision to stay at the Sindh House in Islamabad.

Moreover, PM Imran on Saturday gave "benefit of the doubt" to the estranged party leaders and claimed that such leaders would return to the fold because of the public pressure.
