In the wake of the rejection of the no-confidence motion, the united opposition on Sunday decided to move Supreme Court and urged all institutions to “protect” the Constitution of Pakistan.

The National Assembly on Sunday rejected the united opposition's no-confidence motion and termed terming it against Article 5 of the Constitution. It adjourned the lower house of the parliament session.

NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, who presided over the session in absence of NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, gave the ruling that the no-confidence motion was against the Constitution, law and national sovereignty and is against the rules and business. “I reject this motion and give ruling for disallowing it and prorogue the proceedings of the assembly,” he said and gave the orders under Article 54 (3) of the Constitution and adjourned the proceedings.

In a video statement, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said: “The government has violated Constitution and did not allow voting on the no-confidence motion. The united opposition is not leaving parliament. Our lawyers are on their way to Supreme Court.”

He urged all institutions to “protect, uphold, defend & implement” the Constitution of Pakistan.

Bilawal claimed that the joint opposition had the required numbers to oust PM Imran. He claimed that the speaker did an “unconstitutional job” and the result of such an action was evident.

As per the Constitution, the voting on the no-confidence would be held today, he said, adding that their lawyers would reach court to conduct the voting today. Moreover, he said the opposition had taken back the right from the speaker to prorogue the session.

“PM has exposed himself by running away from the vote. I appeal to people to support Constitution and democracy,” Bilawal said and claimed that the premier was “falsely claiming a foreign conspiracy to oust his government.

Moreover, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif termed it “nothing short of high treason.”

“IK has pushed the country into anarchy. Niazi & his cohort will not be allowed to go scot-free. There will be consequences for blatant & brazen violation of the Constitution. Hope SC will play it's role to uphold the Constitution,” he said in a tweet.

Talking to Aaj News, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed the premier cannot run away from the no-trust vote and the latter had committed “treason.”
