Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said that a four-member team would be formed for talks with the PTI as per the apex court order while claiming that the prevailing situation in Punjab was “calm and cool” despite reports of shelling and baton charge at Lahore’s Batti Chowk.

“His [Imran] statement is only for social media where a single person posts several times. On the public stage, there is no popularity for such chaos and the people want the country to progress,” he said while addressing a press conference alongside Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb at the Press Information Department, Islamabad.

The interior minister alleged that the PTI long march was aimed at sabotaging the IMF talks, which are under way in Doha, Qatar.

Pakistan is seeking a revival of the loan programme in order to steer the economy out of the crisis and boost the country’s reserves through economic policies.

The interior minister added that the government has decided to form a coordination committee as per the directives of the Supreme Court to form a four-member team to let them enter Islamabad. The PTI’s team was led by Babar Awan, he added.

However, the PTI chief earlier dispelled such "rumours" and replied as "absolutely not" in his tweet after addressing the crowd at the Swabi interchange.

To a query, Sanaullah also dispelled reports of the PTI signing any agreement with the government. But, he added, the government was bound to abide by the apex court orders.
