  • The Pakistan Peoples Party led the first of the local government elections in 14 districts of Sindh, amid reports of aerial firing, clashes, and harassment. It made a clean sweep in Larkana, Sukkur, and Kandhkot, according to unofficial results.

Opposition parties have raised concern over the management of polls.

  • The by-election for the provincial assembly PK-7 seat, in Swat, was led by PTI candidate Fazal Maula, according to unconfirmed results. The seat fell vacant after the death of ANP MPA Waqar Ahmad Khan from cardiac arrest on April 30.

  • Pakistan witnessed an uptick in the Covid positivity ratio, which stood at 2.85%, over the last 24 hours. At least two people died of the virus, the National Institute of Health reported.

  • At least seven terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with the security forces in the general area of Ghulam Khan KaIle, North Waziristan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations said. Subedar Munir Hussain of Parachinar, Kurram, and Havildar Babu Khan of Dera Ismail Khan were martyred.

  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for reviving the role of the provinces in the implementation of the National Action Plan. He alleged that such ignorance during the last four years also led to the rise in terrorism.

  • The Saudi crown prince has conferred the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa for making “significant contributions” to defence cooperation between both the countries.

  • Pakistan is expected to sign the agreement with the International Monetary Fund on the bailout package on June 28. The budget is subject to budget approval, sources said.

  • PTI chief Imran Khan vows to defeat the coalition government in the elections.

  • Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would inaugurate the peoples’ intra-city bus service in Karachi on Monday (today). In the first phase, buses would be run on one route.
