Istanbul: A man accused of ordering a deadly 2013 bomb attack on a town in southern Turkey has been extradited from the United States, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry.

Turkish-born Mehmet Gezer was sought on terrorism charges and separately had an international arrest warrant out against him on drugs charges, the ministry said on Thursday.

Gezer was already in jail in the US. Ankara coordinated his extradition via Interpol, the ministry said.

Gezer arrived at Istanbul Airport escorted by US officials and was taken into custody by anti-terrorism police units.

Twin blasts in Reyhanli in the southern province of Hatay along Syrian border killed 53 people in 2013, according to state news agency Anadolu.

Ankara blamed Turkish left-wing extremist groups with alleged links to the Syrian government.

Two suspects had already been sentenced to life imprisonment in Turkey for their links to the attack.
