Islamabad’s Green, Blue Line metrobus start working today, free for a month

Work starts on command and control centre

Islamabad has become the only city in Pakistan to have four, the highest number, of bus rapid transit lines, with the inauguration of the Green and Blue Metrobus lines Thursday morning.

The Green and Blue lines were inaugurated early Thursday morning. More in the works for the sectors of the city. Thirty buses were added on Thursday.

The Green and Blue lines have been added to the Red and Orange, giving Islamabad the longest network. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also laid the foundation stone for work to start on the Metro Bus Operation Command and Control Centre.

The Green Line Metro Bus Service will run between Bhara Kahu to PIMS Hospital Islamabad. The 15.5km route will have eight stations.

The PM announced free travel for one month on these two Metro Bus services.

The Blue Line Metro Bus Service will run between Koral Chowk to PIMS Hospital Islamabad. The 20km route will have 13 stations.

  • Shuttle service till Athal Chowk, four lines with feeder routes
  • Smart cards for all four lines, including Rawalpindi Red line, so people pay with one
  • A Command and Control Centre will be ready to manage traffic in six months
