Quetta-Karachi road cut off as Balochistan emergency rescues continue in rains

The route from Karachi to Quetta has been cut off in the latest damage caused by monsoon rains in Balochistan.

People were stranded in Aurki, Lasbela.

So far, 50 people including men, women and children have been rescued from Karwan area of Lasbela district.

Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed satisfaction over the rescue operation and appreciated PDMA for saving precious lives.

The Chief Minister has also issued directives to use all-out resources to provide relief to the people stranded in flood-hit areas.

He said that saving precious human lives and bringing them to safe places was the first priority of the government.

The toll in these monsoon rains jumped to 104 with the addition of two children’s deaths in Musakhel and Dera Bugti.

The PDMA’s teams rescued 50 people in Karwan, Bela and by evening moved towards Okrri Sukkan.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said that women and children were among the 104 people killed.

  • 40 men, 30 women and 34 children are among the dead, said the PDMA
  • The deaths occurred in Bolan, Quetta, Zhob, Dikki, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Kech, Mastung, Harnai, Qila Saifullah and Sibbi
  • 61 people were injured
  • 6,068 houses destroyed and damaged across the province
  • 4 highways covering 565 km severely affected
  • 712 livestock killed
  • 197,930 acres of standing crops, solar panels, tubewells and borings damaged

According to the latest reports, the rains affected the eastern and northern districts of Lasbela, Pishin, Naseerabad, Sibbi, Bolan and Qila Saifullah.

The provincial government requested people to avoid unnecessary movement.

The PDMA said that it was undertaking relief and rescue work and providing people essential items, but in some areas people were still waiting for aid.
