ISLAMABAD: The Adiala jail authorities handed over the custody of the PTI leader Shahbaz Gill to the Islamabad police after several hours of delay.

Ministry of Interior directed a contingent of Rangers to reach Adiala Jail, for Gil’s extradition.

Gill’s custody has been given to Islamabad Police according to the directions of the court.

Earlier, the Adiala Jail administration refused to hand over Shahbaz Gill to the Islamabad Police saying that Gill could not travel due to his physical condition, therefore the accused could not be handed over to the Islamabad police without the permission of the doctors.

Shahbaz Gill’s remand challenged in IHC

Following the court’s orders, Gill challenged its ruling regarding two-day physical remand in sedition case in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Additional Sessions Judge, IG and SSP Islamabad among others have been made parties in the petition.

Earlier in the day PTI leader was sent to two-day physical custody of the federal capital police on Wednesday after the district and sessions court announced its reserved decision on the cops’ criminal revision appeal.

Additional Judge Zeba Chaudhry announced the verdict that was reserved earlier today.

The PTI has alleged that Gill was tortured in police custody previously and remains in danger of being subjected to further torture if he is handed back to the Islamabad police.

The Islamabad police arrested Gill on August 9 after he made controversial remarks that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) deemed were “highly hateful and seditious”. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Gill was arrested by the Islamabad police “in accordance with the law” on charges of sedition and inciting the public against the state institutions.

The court proceedings started with the arguments of special prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi, who contended that eight days remand was given in the theft and threats cases and treason charges were registered in this case.

Abbasi argued that rejecting the physical remand of the investigation officer was akin to challenging the latter’s prerogatives. He maintained that there was still a need to investigate the matter from different angles.

“The accused is continuously lying, a polygraphic test was needed,” Abbasi said, adding that a mobile phone has to be recovered from Gill that contained all the matter.
