ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Shahbaz Gill, who is accused of sedition and inciting people through his comments on a news programme, must be shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) hospital, the district and sessions court in Islamabad ruled on Friday.

“Shahbaz Gill medical check-up must again be conducted,” duty judge judicial magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali Khan said while reading the reserved verdict. “Shahbaz Gill’s condition is not good.”

It further ordered that the PTI leader’s medical should be presented by Monday.

“I reject the plea for completion of physical remand. Shahbaz Gill remand has not yet started,” the judge said and ordered conducting the accused check-up as the latter was having a breathing problem.

Gill’s lawyer, Chauhdry, contended that why his client was sent to the CIA office.

“Leave these things. I have written the order,” the judge said.

He wondered that if the accused person’s condition was good would he had been brought in ambulance.

Earlier, the court reserved its decision on the police plea seeking further eight-day remand of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was brought to court by police from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

The court inquired from the police why it was seeking further eight-day physical remand of police. “Was the two-day physical remand done or not? Was the police able to conduct an investigation,” it said and further inquired whether the police were seeking new remand or an extension to the earlier one.

“Did the last two-day physical remand not start technically,” it asked.

The Islamabad police brought Gill in an ambulance to the court. Crying and coughing Gill reached the courtroom in a wheelchair, he claimed that his mask was taken away.

“Shahbaz Gill’s lungs are affected,” his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told the court which started hearing pertaining to the physical remand of PTI leader. “He is having difficulty in breathing.”

Gill is former prime minister Imran Khan’s chief of staff. He was arrested near Bani Gala on August 9 after he appeared on an ARY talk show. He was accused of making statements against the heads of state institutions, deemed an act of sedition.

The Islamabad High Court granted permission on Thursday to lawyers to meet their client, Gill, who was admitted to Pims, Islamabad. The court has also instructed Islamabad police to submit a report regarding Gill’s alleged torture at the next hearing on Monday. IHC Acting Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, who heard Gill’s plea against his physical remand, expressed displeasure with the medical official of Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for not bringing the records sought by the court.

The lawyer added that his client was in serious difficulty and police were insisting that Gill arrived in the courtroom by taking the stairs.

The court remarked that the suspect has to be brought into the courtroom and directed the police to bring Gill.

Earlier, the court had adjourned the hearing of the case till 9:15 after lawyer Chaudhry requested the court that another lawyer representing Gill, Shoaib Shaheen, would be in the courtroom by that time.

“Saadi request aye wey mulzim noo jail bhejo tey saanu vi soon diyo,” Chaudhry requested the court while speaking in Punjabi.

The lawyer had given the 9:15 time on the court’s inquiry.

Shoaib Shaheen went to the airport as his son had arrived here.
