NA debate on energy crisis, law and order, dengue to continue Monday

National Assembly on Friday decided unanimously to continue debate on energy crisis, law and order situation, dengue fever and other issues on Monday.

Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah moved the motion seeking consent of the House to continue ongoing debate as more legislators want to put forth their suggestions to eliminate the menace of load shedding, petroleum price hike, dengue epidemic and other issues confronting the nation.

Abdul Qadir Baloch, a PML-N legislator resumed the debate being continued on fifth day here in the National Assembly. He appreciated the immediate measures of the government that led the culmination of load shedding from across the country according to media reports.

He questioned that why government had not taken measures to end the menace of load shedding before eruption of protests in Punjab and other parts of the country.

"Why the shortfall has been allowed to increase to 7500mw from 3000 mw in the year 2008."

He said 10,000 illegal tube wells have been regularized in Baluchistan. He urged the government to take action against the corrupt officials of Wapda responsible for granting illegal connections.

Urging the government to inaugurate Bhasha dam project, initiate new wind energy, and more hydel projects, he said country has 50,000 mw capacity of producing power from hydel.

Only in Dasu there is 4500 mw power production capacity, he added.

Criticizing target killings he said from 3000 to 4000 people are killed in Karachi from 2008 to 2011. Police should be empowered to control law and order situation.

He urged the political parties to disband their military wings.

In Baluchistan over 60 people of a specific community were killed during last 10 days in Baluchistan, he said adding that the killed should be granted compensation as practiced in other provinces.

Speaking on a point of order Khawaja Asif said he has been deprived of Rs 10 million development funds.

Yasmin Rehman said dengue fever should not be politicized. She lauded the government for ending load shedding from the country. She urged preventive measures to check the spread of dengue and taking health scientists on board for preventing the spread of dengue again next year.

Hameedullah Jan Afridi said the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are wrongly blamed for non payment of electricity bills. FATA people are paying to political agents under different heads.

FATA should be paid royalty of Warsak dam. He said incentives should be given to people for switching to solar, wind energy.

Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar said Fata legislators should deliberate to persuade FATA people to pay power bills.

Naushin Syed said 173 people have been killed due to dengue fever. The issue of dengue should not be politicized.

Syed Haider Ali Sah of ANP said corrupt officials of Wada should be punished. During the last three years no official of wapda held responsible for corruption on power crisis.

Province should be bound to produce at least 2000mw to 3000 mw power on their own.

He said Awami National Party (ANP) does not have any military wing as it believe in non violence.

PML-N parliamentarians Shakeel Awan taking part in debate said that if the issue of loadshedding could be resolved in 36 hours then why the government was waiting from last three, four years.

Sardar Salim Haider said the conspiracy to derail the democratic government of the country would result in failure and the sitting government will complete its five years term.

He called for provision of health and education like basic facilities to the common man.

ANP Bushra Gohar on a point of order said that October 2005 earthquake will be observed on Saturday, adding that the investigation report into collapse of MargallaTower in Islamabad has yet not made public and the culprits are still at large.

Zahid Hamid on his point of order said that the Supreme Court has given its verdict with regard to law and order situation in Karachi. The apex court observed that the failure of the federal and provincial governments resulted in loss of lives and properties in Karachi, he informed the House.

Amir Muqam said that Lowari Tunnel Project has yet not completed despite the fact that Rs. 8 billion has been spent on it. He called upon the government to provide rest of the amount for the project so that the people of Chitral could be benefited from it.
