A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) Friday ordered that the petitions against detention of chief of Mahajar Qoumi Movement (MQM-H) Afaq Ahmed under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) have become infructuous as the Sindh Home Department has withdrawn the detention order under MPO against him.

The bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Salman Hamid ordered that "the Advocate General Sindh has placed on record and order dated October 06, 2011 of the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Sindh, by which the detention of Afaq Ahmad under MPO 1960 through Home Department's order dated September 28, 2011 has been withdrawn.

It may be mentioned that Afaq Ahmed has been formally arrested by the police in a kidnapping for ransom case registered against him in 2001.
