Political stability must for economic progress: PM

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani while stressing the importance of political stability as a must to achieve economic progress and prosperity, said on Tuesday that no political party can alone tackle problems facing the country, including terrorism and extremism.“There is a need to tackle the challenges unitedly. If some people think that a political party can tackle the challenges, they are living in a fool’s paradise,” Gilani said while addressing the 24th Achievement Awards ceremony of Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here at the Convention Centre.
The Prime Minister said law and order and economic development were inter-linked and added that the present government inherited the menace of terrorism and extremism, which was severely affecting the society.
Gilani said since he had taken over as Prime Minister over three and a half years back, he had been trying to bring together various political parties and leaders, with different manifestos, at a single platform to ensure political stability.
He said the government was resolved to fight terrorists and extremists, who had no faith or religion and were bent upon destabilizing Pakistan.
The Prime Minister, however, vowed not to let the terrorists succeed in their nefarious designs, for the sake of country and the nation and to establish the writ of the government.
He said the terrorists and extremists were distorting the soft image of Islam, which is a religion of peace and love.
