Textile exports surge 10.34 pc to reach $3.191 billion

Textile exports form the country surged by 10.34 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Textile exports during July-September (2011-12) were recorded at $3.191 billion against the exports of $2.892 billion during July- September (2010-11), Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.

The major textile products that contributed in the positive growth of the overall exports included raw cotton, exports of which increased by over 668 percent during the period.

The exports of raw cotton during July-September (2011-12) stood at $54.247 million against the exports of 7.063 million during last year, the FBS provisional data revealed.

Similarly, the exports of cotton cloth increased from 530.291 million last year to $594.170 million this year, showing an increase of 12.05 percent while the exports of yarn (other than cotton yarn) increased by 117.46 percent by increasing form $0.475 million to 1.044 million.

The exports of knitwear increased from $555.805 million last year to $591.776 million this year, showing increase of 6.47 million whereas the exports of bed wear increased by 3.18 percent from $495.993 million to $511.750 million

The exports of towels increased from $171.954 million last year to $182.995 million this year, showing increase of 6.42 percent and the exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin increased by over 228 percent from $6.208 million to 20.363 million.

The exports of readymade garments increased by 15.30 percent from $382.616 million to $441.160 million while the exports of art, silk and synthetic textile increased by 18.63 percent from $149.692 million to $177.581 million.

The exports of made-up articles (excluding towels and bed wear) increased from 140.497 million to $153.094 million, an increase of 8.97 million whereas the exports of all other textile material increased by 29.29 percent from $66.266 million to 85.674 million, the data revealed.0

The textile products that witnessed negative growth in exports during the period under review included, cotton yarn, exports of which decreased by 1.47 percent from $371.420 million last year to $365.947 million this year.

Similarly, the exports of cotton (carded or combed) decreased from $8.719 million to $0.196 million, showing a decrease of 97.75 percent.

On the other hand, the textile exports from the country during September 2011 witnessed positive growth of 5.42 percent as compared to the same moth of last year but negative growth of 9.64 percent when compared to the exports of August 2011, the data revealed.

The textile exports during September were recorded at $982.287 million against the exports of 931.749 million during September 2010 and $1.087 billion in August 2011.
