Kuwait dissolves parliament

Kuwait's ruler has dissolved parliament to set the stage for elections in the politically tense Gulf nation.

The official Kuwait News Agency says the nation's emir made the decision Tuesday, less than a week after naming a new prime minister. Elections must now be held within 60 days and the prime minister will remain in a caretaker role.

Kuwait has been gripped by political showdowns between the government and opposition groups alleging widespread corruption and efforts to limit free expression.
