Pakistan 594-5 decl in Bangladesh Test

Younis Khan smashed a double century and Asad Shafiq scored a hundred before Pakistan declared its first innings on 594-5 on the third day of the first test against Bangladesh on Sunday.

Pakistan built its first innings lead to 459 runs, having resumed the day on 415-4 at Chittagong's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Bangladesh was 24-0 in its second innings at tea with Tamim Iqbal on 15 and Mohamamed Nazimuddin on 8.

Khan reached 200 for the third time in tests, compiling his runs off just 290 balls with 18 fours and three sixes. Pakistan immediately declared when he reached the mark, giving Bangladesh a difficult task of batting the bulk of seven sessions to stave off defeat.

Shafiq was the only man to be dismissed Sunday, falling for 104 as he became the third batsman to reach triple figures in the innings, following Mohammad Hafeez's 143 on day two.

Elias Sunny had the best of bowling figures with 2-98 while Shahadat Hossain and Mahmudullah each taking one wicket.

On Friday, Bangladesh was dismissed for a modest 135 in its first innings.

Pakistan is in the midst of an unbeaten streak stretching back to the one-day series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates last month. It swept the one-day series against Bangladesh 3-0 and came out on top in the one-off Twenty20 match.

Bangladesh has won just three of its 71 test matches since gaining test status in 2000.
