Nato supply: JI chief severely criticises govt’s approach

Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawwar Hasan, has said that the restoration of Nato supplies on a "soft apology "would be the height of foolishness and the masses won't permit that.

The restoration of Nato supplies, in fact is tantamount to surrendering the country's sovereignty and giving up the country's defence and axing our own feet, he said. He was addressing the annual function of the trustees of the Shuhadai-e-Islam Foundation, Pakistan, at Mansoora, on Sunday.

The JI Ameer said an impression was being created by the media that Washington could offer a mild apology on the Salala attack after which the supplies would be restored. He said the US was already attacking this country and innocent Pakistanis were being martyred every day in drone and missile attacks. The US had given little weight to the Parliament's unanimous resolution and declared that the drone attacks would continue. Under these circumstances, allowing the Nato supplies would be suicidal.

He said that the patriotic forces in the country would have to unite and form a grand alliance to throw out Zardari and company from thee corridors of power.

He said that the failure of the government conspiracy against the judiciary had saved the country from a constitutional crisis and anarchy. The rulers, he said, were bent upon destroying the national institutions to prolong their rule and had least regard for the country's stability and were out to demolish the judiciary only to achieve mean selfish ends.  He said despite the government explanations on this score, the nation had strong doubts in this respect as was manifest from the discussion in the course of an arranged programme by a private TV channel.

The JI Ameer said that nothing good could be expected from the Zardari/ Gilani government and there was despair and despondency all around. In such a situation, it was the duty of the patriotic forces to chalk out a line of action for steering the country out of the crises and make serious efforts to save national institutions and to ensure the country's existence and sovereignty.

He said that the situation in the country had gone too far and the masses were on protesting against loadshedding, lawlessness, unemployment and other evils. Lakhs of workers had been rendered jobless due to the closure of industries. The protestors were torching Wapda offices and grid stations, vehicles and public property. If the nationwas not given a ray of hope, the things would go out of control. Recorder Report.
