Day 3: Sri Lanka eyes victory as Pakistan's batting tumbles again

GALLE: The first of the three test match series played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka gave a concluding image when Pakistan were given a mammoth total of 510 runs to chase with two days to spare. Pakistan was at 36-3 at the end of Day 3.

The Pakistani team commenced day 3 of the test match with Younis Khan and Mohammad Ayub at the crease with a score of 48-5. Pakistani team was dismissed for a mere 100 runs with Younis Khan scoring the highest score of 29 runs.

The Sri Lankan team, not opting to enforce the follow-on, carried on with their batting and declared their innings after scoring 137 runs for a loss of 5 wickets. Tillekaratne Dilshan scored the highest for his team (56). Junaid Khan and Saeed Ajmal were the only wicket takers for Pakistan with the former grabbing 3 as opposed to the later's 2 wickets.

Pakistan started their run chase (a target of 510) with captain Mohammad Hafeez (4) and Taufiq Umar (10) giving out their wickets cheaply to Nuwan Kulasekra. Azhar Ali was later dismissed by Herath after only scoring 7 runs. Younis Khan (0*) and night watchman Saeed Ajmal (11*) were at the crease at the end of Day 3.
