Euro 2012: Torres clinches Golden Boot Award

KIEV: Spain's Fernando Torres was awarded the Golden Boot award after his side's emphatic victory Italy in Euro 2012 final on Sunday.

The Chelsea star was awarded the the Golden Boot for his three goals and one assist in the European tournament.

The 28 year old scored a brace against Republic of Ireland while his third goal came in the important Euro 2012 final against Italy. The Spanish striker later assisted Chelsea team-mate Juan Mata to agonizingly pile up the goals against Italy in the Euro 2012 final

The Euro 2012 saw six strikers score three goals within the tournament. The players included Mario Balotelli (Italy), Mario Gomez (Germany), Alan Dzagoev (Russia), Mario Mandzukic (Croatia) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).

When goals are tied it goes first down to assists (Gomez and Torres had one apiece) and then minutes on the pitch with the fewest winning, and Torres only played for 189 minutes compared with Gomez's 282.

Torres had to face a difficult Premier League season as he was unable to find the net during October-March. He ended the Premier League with just 8 goals in his 32 appearances.

However, he played an important role in helping Chelsea win the Champions League by scoring in the semi-final against Barcelona.
