Qaim welcomes Chinese investment in Thar coal project

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has welcomed Chinese Electric Power Construction Corporation- SEPCO for its induction in investment in Thar Coal power project by making Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with British oriented Oracle Power Company already engaged in execution of coal based power project of 600MW.

This he said while talking to the Chairman SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation China Liu Chaunming who called on him along with his delegation at CM House here on Thursday.

He said that all facilities incentives would be provided to his organization for easily execution and completion of its task of power generation essentially needed to Pakistan and Sindh to meet with power crises.

He said that Sindh has good potential of power generation by virtue of its coal reserves and wind corridor, and added that sooner or later, the Sindh province would be hub of power generation and it enable not only to meet the national requirements but also to export the energy to other countries.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah the view that SEPCO would not feel any difficulty as all ground work is almost completed.

He advised the delegation to start their work as soon as possible.

The Chairman SEPCO and other senior members of the delegation while taking part in deliberation were of the view that within a week time they to go for Joint Development Agreement with its partner Oracle Power Company and by the end of June 2014, they to achieve financial closing and start development work.

They said that SEPCO is a highly technical sound company having experience to produce 93000MW.

They said that they consider the coal a economically viable source for power generation and hopefully the power project in which they are going to implement should be completed within timeframe.
