SRB making efforts to ease tax collection procedure

HYDERABAD: Chairman Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) Tashfeen Khalid Niaz has said that efforts are under way to make the procedure of tax collection more easy so that the tax payers could not face any inconvenience.

SRB has been established after NFC Award and it received Rs 34 billion last year in respect of Services Sales Tax, he informed while addressing the businessmen, traders and industrialists of Hyderabad at the Secretariat of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) Thursday evening.

He said that prime objective of establishment of SRB was to receive services sales tax from the tax payers so that the same could be utilized for the development of the province.

Majority of the business community remained unaware about the performance of SRB, he said and added that the Board is making efforts to ease the procedure of the tax collection and dispel the impression of any corruption in this respect. He informed that no tax has been imposed on marriage hall, but the Board is receiving 16 percent sales tax which is payable in respect of returns on monthly basis.

The marriage halls located on 800 square yards are exempted from services sales tax, he said and added that masons, carpenters and electricians are also exempted from the tax and the Board has imposed the tax only Rs 50 per square feet on the covered construction of a flat.

He said that the tax payers are the consumers of the Board and all out efforts will be made to provide maximum facilities to them. The Board always welcomed the positive recommendations, he said and advised the representatives of the business community to submit applicable proposals so that the same could be moved to the government for approval.

The Acting President HCCI Turab Ali Khoja, President Marriage Hall Association Ashfaq Ahmed Khanzada and others while taking part in the deliberations highlighted the problems being faced by the tax payers in respect of services sales tax of Sindh Revenue Board.

Among others Commissioner Operation Muhammad Daud Pirzada, Muhammad Iqbal Lakho and Syed Rizwan Ali were also present on the occasion.
