CM hints at investment moot, roadshow on energy sector

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that Punjab government had announced a big project of electricity generation from coal and special incentives would be offered to local and foreign investors in this regard.

Chairing a meeting here, he said that investment conference on energy would be arranged in Lahore, while roadshows would be conducted in China, Gulf states and other countries for this purpose.

Shahbaz said that government was determined to rid the people of energy crisis and efforts in this regard would prove to be successful, adding that energy projects would be implemented speedily by displaying a national spirit.

The Chief Minister directed the quarters concerned for setting up a committee and sub-committees for holding roadshows and investment conference, asserting that preparations for this purpose should be made in a professional manner. He said that federal and provincial governments should make all-out efforts for ensuring the success of the roadshows and investment conference.

On this occasion, the Secretary Foreign Affairs assured full support to supplement Punjab government for holding these vital events for coal-based energy projects. The participants of the meeting also submitted various proposals on the subject.

Provincial Ministers Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman and Chaudhary Sher Ali Khan, MPAs Malik Ahmed Khan, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Secretary Foreign Affairs, Secretary Trade, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, Chairman Board of Investment Pakistan and concerned officials were also present.
