Major Markets sealed in Karachi over violation of COVID-19 SOPs

Karachi’s Major markets and shopping centers were sealed over failure to follow the SOPs of social distancing.

Zainab Market, Victoria Market, International Market, Gul Plaza and several other markets were shut down.

A large number of people reached the markets soon after their opening. All the SOPs, including social distancing, were flouted by the customers as well as shopkeepers.

The district administration said that they would allow opening of the markets on assurance of following the SOPs.

The Sindh government had allowed the markets to reopen amid strict instructions on May 11. According to the SOPs, not more than three customers are to be allowed to be inside a shop at a time, with a distance of four-five feet to be maintained between them.

In Punjab, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar condemned the SOP violations in the province’s markets. He was chairing a meeting to review the violations.

He directed markets to follow SOPs or strict action will be taken.
