Today, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan announced that the government of Pakistan has received 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford coronavirus vaccines.

The SAPM took to social networking site Twitter to inform the general public. He also claimed that a further 1.2 million AZ vaccines will be arriving soon increasing the nation's vaccination capacity significantly.

He appreciated the efforts of multiple International organizations in making the procurement of coveted Covid jabs. He tweeted:

Appreciate the cooperation of the COVAX Facility and all global partners involved, including @who @UNICEF @gavi @CEPIvaccines @EUPakistan @USAID @FCDO. 1.2 mill doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford received and 1.2 mill expected soon will supplement vaccines purchased by the Gov!

Pakistan's de-facto health minister further wrote:

In addition to existing guidelines, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine will be administered to those over the age of 40 in line with practices in many countries.

Pakistan is currently vaccinating 150k-200k individuals daily. Covid vaccines are in short supply but the authorities claim that soon there will be adequate quantities of vaccines. The country has so far been able to vaccinate only 2-3% of the population so there is a lot more to do and amping up the vaccination drive should be the number one priority of the government.
