In the last 24 hours, 2,050 people tested positive for the coronavirus infection out of 29,378 people who were sampled. This shows the positivity rate of almost 7% in the country.

The second wave of coronavirus infection has taken over several major cities of Pakistan. The daily coronavirus count of the country is gradually rising every day. For the past week, on average 2,000 plus new cases are being reported daily.

The worrisome part is that the positivity rate has almost tripled in the last couple of weeks or so. The positivity rate remained consistently around 1-2% for the past two to three months when Pakistan was able to contain the virus effectively. But now the second wave is causing hundreds of infections daily and resultantly the rate is surging.

Recently, the Azad Kashmir region has been seeing the highest positivity rate in the country. Yesterday, PCR tests of 19% percent of people who were sampled in the Azad Kashmir returned positive. This unfortunate spike has forced the local government to implement a lockdown in the region for two weeks today.
