A fire broke out on Thursday at India's Serum Institute, the world's biggest vaccine manufacturer, and resulted in the deaths of five people, local media reported.

According to the details, the fire broke out at the under-construction building of Serum Institute of India in Pune, however, vaccines and the vaccine manufacturing plants are safe.

The CEO of Serum Institute Adar Poonawalla took to Twitter to share that the fire will not cause any delays to the production of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"I would like to reassure all governments & the public that there would be no loss of #COVISHIELD production due to multiple production buildings that I had kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at @SerumInstIndia. Thank you very much @PuneCityPolice & Fire Department."
