Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday has demanded that government appoints a non-controversial person as chief of the Broadsheet inquiry committee.

While speaking to the media, the former prime minister said that Justice(r) Azmat Saeed should not accept his appointment as chief of the probing committee as he is a member of the Board of Governors at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.

PML-N leader while demanding an open hearing and transparent investigation said that the masses will decide who the real culprits are. He said the PTI-led government has failed the public.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed former Supreme Court (SC) Justice(r) Azmat Saeed as chief of the Broadsheet inquiry committee. However, both PPP and PML-N rejected the appointment citing a conflict of interest.

Senior PML-N leader and former Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, while speaking to GEO, said that the way the PTI government is handling the Broadsheet saga 'is nothing less of a joke'. Ahsan said that former SC justice has 'a personal interest in proving allegations by the Broadsheet right since he headed the bench that disqualified Nawaz Sharif without indicting him.'

Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, a senior leader of the PPP, said the appointment of Azmat Saeed shows the government is dishonest and wants to distort the facts.
