Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has received a show-cause notice from Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an 11 party opposition alliance, it is part of. The notice was issued to seek an explanation over the absence of PPP leadership from PDM's meeting.

The newly appointed opposition leader in Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani confirmed that notice has been received by the PPP, however, the party has yet to respond. The former premier added that PPP is part of PDM and he will comment on the situation in detail after the party leadership's response to the notice.

According to the reports broadcasted by the local media, a similar notice has been issued to the Awami National part (ANP). Both parties have seven days to submit their response.

Senators from five opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam - Fazal (JUI-F), Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PMAP), National Party, and Baloch National Party - Mengal (BNP-M) had met in Islamabad to discuss the future of PDM as the differences emerged between in the alliance on Saturday.

During the meeting, the PDM leaders had decided to seek an explanation from the PPP and ANP over the appointment of the opposition leader in the Senate against the wishes of the alliance. PML-N shared that PDM chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman will ask for a formal explanation from the leadership of PPP and ANP.

The opposition parties had announced to form a separate opposition bloc of 27 Senators and exclude PPP and ANP.

It is pertinent to mention that PDM had suggested opposition leader in Senate be from PML-N, however, instead of complying with the PDM's wishes PPP succeeded in the appointment of former premier Yusuf Raza Gillani as the opposition leader in the upper house of the Parliament.

The differences between PDM and PPP's stance started to emerge when PPP refused to participate in en-mass resignations from the provincial and national assemblies.
